Camp Parent Guide

CAMPER HEALTH
If your child is running a fever or does not feel well enough to attend camp, please keep your child at home and notify the Director.
Our camp has a “no nit” policy in regards to lice.  If your camper is discovered with lice, she must be nit-free before she will be allowed to return to camp.

CHILD SIGN IN/OUT
Parents must sign their children in and out in order for their children to participate in the day camp programs for the day.
If you are carpooling, you must sign in all girls you are dropping off, and sign out all girls you are picking up.
We can only release children to the ADULTS for whom written authorization has been given. Siblings CANNOT sign out other siblings.
We do encourage parents to come meet the Unit Leaders and Unit Assistants on their child’s first day of camp.
Sign in/out sheets are used to account for all children.

CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
We will make every effort to serve all children in our programs. We will evaluate whether we can do so on a case by case basis.

CLOTHING
Campers should wear shirts with sleeves that cover their shoulders, socks that cover the ankle, and sneakers or tennis shoes.  They should not wear crocs, sandals or flip flops, and halter or tank tops.

DISCIPLINE POLICY/BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT
It is the policy of Among the Pines to manage the behavior of children in such a way to encourage the child to learn self-control and responsibility for one’s actions. Coercive and corporal punishments are not permitted. We encourage Unit Leaders to establish clear, well-defined boundaries of behavior, as well as allowing the campers input into their boundaries.
 We will keep parents informed of their child’s behavior and encourage parental suggestions in working with their child.
 When a severe discipline problem becomes evident, staff will set up a meeting with the parent(s) to discuss the situation.
 If a child’s behavior jeopardizes the safety and well-being of the children, the staff, or the continuation of the program, it may be necessary to remove the child from the program.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Fire – the fire will be reported to the Longmont Fire Department. Children will be accounted for from the Attendance Sheet.
Evacuation – In the event of an evacuation, we will relocate to the At Home store parking lot in Longmont and will contact the parents from there.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
Our programs spend most times outdoors. When lightning storms or hail storms approach groups take cover at the nearest shelter. If there is a light rainstorm with no lightning, groups may explore outside in the rain.

LOST & FOUND
It is very helpful for you to clearly mark all of your child’s belongings with their first and last name. When items have names, we can easily track down the owners. Please talk to your child about being responsible for their belongings. The staff will try to make sure campers have all their items, but ultimately campers are responsible.
If your child is missing something after camp, please check with the staff Monday through Thursday. Anything found at the end of camp will be noted in an email to parents after camp ends.

MEALS AND SNACKS
If your child has a life-threatening allergy, please consider providing your child’s own snacks and lunches for their safety. Our snacks and lunches contain common allergens except peanuts and tree nuts.
We have a no-nut policy (this includes peanut butter, and all other nut butters).

MEDICATIONS
In accordance with GSCO policy, since we do not have a registered nurse on site, we will not administer prescription or as-needed medication at camp.  If a camper needs medication during the day, or during the Thursday overnight, the parent needs to come to camp and administer medication.
The exception to this is rescue medications (Inhaler and Epi-pen) which should be listed on the Girl Health History Form.  Campers may self-carry their rescue medication if they self-carry at school, or it can be carried by their Unit Leader at camp.

VISITORS
All visitors must check-in with the Director.
